TBT: What happened on November 26?

For this week’s TBT, we are going back to some historical event that occurred exactly on November 26. Let’s begin!

1 .  1476

Vlad the Impaler, with the help of Stephen the Great and Stephen V. Bathory, won the battle against Basarab Laiota  and became the ruler of Wallachia for the third time. Vlad was famous for his reputation for excessive cruelty. He was named as “the impaler” because of his practice of impaling his enemies. The novel, Dracula was inspired by his alias and his reputation.

2.   1789

The United States observed its very first Thanksgiving Day following the proclamation of President George Washington.

3.   1922

The first ever film to be released in two-tone technicolor, The Tall of the Sea, debuted on November 26, 1922. Although The Gulf Between was actually the first one to do so, it was not was widely distributed as The Tall of the Sea.

4.   1990

Famous Kosovan-English singer and song writer, Rita Ora was born on November 26, 1990

5.   1998

Tony Blair became the first Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to address the Oireachtas, the parliament of the Republic of Ireland.

6.   2004

A man stabbed and killed eight people and caused serious wounds on another four in  a school dormitory in Ruzhou, China. This tragic event was dubbed as the Ruzhou School Massacre.

7.   2011

The Curiosity Rover was launched  by the Mars Science Laboratory. The rover was set to land on Mars and observe its environment.
