For many years now, users of the famous social media network Facebook, have been asking its creators to put up a dislike button. This is to avoid awkward situation such as when someone posts about a death or a loved and the likes. But in a recent announcement, Mark Zuckerberg, creator of Facebook, confirmed that the said button is already in process of development.
Without the dislike button, Facebook users found it hard to express sympathy to posts that contain miserable news and negative information. “People have asked about the ‘dislike’ button for many years,” Zuckerberg told the audience at Facebook’s Menlo Park office last Tuesday. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we are working on it and shipping it,” he added.
The social networking sight initially didn’t want to put up a dislike button because it didn’t want to adapt to Reddit’s up-voting and down-voting system. However, the dislike button is going to work in a different way than that of Reddit.
“What [Facebook users] really want is the ability to express empathy,” Zuckerberg said. “Not every moment is a good moment,” he added. The dislike button is intended to scams that are being posted on Facebook that gets attraction from more users due to the number of its likes. Through the dislike button, Facebook users will be able to distinguish a scam from a factual information.
However, Zuckerberg did not give an exact date as to when the dislike button will be available in the social networking sight, but the thought of it being in the process of development is already enough reason for Facebook users to rejoice.
